It's the new millenium, stupid

Hello carnivores, it is close to 3 years since my last post and I hope I haven't lost your faith.
I have been in mourning since November 2012 and trying to regain strength. Just when I thought conservatives had momentum again, here we are in the middle of a government shutdown and Obama has all the aces. He is playing like it this the last game of Monopoly, the last pictionary or bingo card of the night. It's as if he told his maniacal staff, "They want to shut down the government, then I will help them TORCH it!"
In my humble opinion Obama, the Congress and Senate are all guilty of burning down the house. Of course Obama has manipulated the press and public opinion to favor him and vilify the Republicans. Of course it is poor leadership to refuse any negotiations. But let's face it, the Republicans have made it easy for Obama. Republicans choosing to try and kill Obamacare as if they are Captain Ahab searching for that damn wale has brought us all right down to the barbed wire fence, staring back at the whites of each others' eyes, daring the other side to blink.

Thinking back to 2012 and a Palm Beach Republican dinner and book signing for Laura Ingraham that I attended with my father, we sat at a table with several other older, very wealthy Republican donors. Talk centered around Mitt Romney and the possible vice presidential running mates he could choose.  Mitch Daniels of Indiana, Rob Portman of Ohio. Chris Christie, pre Superstorm Sandy was a front runner. Laura Ingraham favored Susana Martinez, governor of New Mexico due to her support of immigration reform, and stances on social issues.
Marco Rubio came up as well, and since we were in Florida, was a favored choice at the table. I took heart that this older, white, wealthy crowd was interested in a more diverse mix of Republicans. Until one of the members of our table asked bluntly if Marco Rubio was "an American". That one comment sealed the deal, along with the fact that no other at the table, aside from myself and Dad, knew the answer.
One more anecdote. I knew it was all over for Mitt the day I stood at a light waving a Romney sign, one month before the election, with a group of fervent conservatives who wanted what is best for America. I mentioned my support of gay conservatives to the group and how I had recently joined GOProud, a gay conservative group in DC who was stumping for Mitt Romney. The reaction was immediate and swift: disdain and suspicion, and if I had stayed long enough, probably a lecture.

To get ahead and stay relevant conservatives, and YES, the GOP are going to have to let go of the prejudices on race, sexual orientation and other social issues. How many more male republicans are going to keep opening their mouths about the female anatomy and abortion? If you don't have a uterus or ovaries, you don't get an opinion! Let's move on from the preaching and condescending, the judgmental attitudes. Lets embrace people who believe the same things we do-smaller, smart  government that is accountable to the people, regardless of who they love or want to marry.
Providing EVERYONE with the opportunities to be successful instead of taking from the successful and giving to the ones who are not.
GOProud is on a bus tour of colleges and cities to promote their organization. Check out their website, read their views on policies and issues. This is a great organization that NEEDS to be a bigger part of our party. We will succeed if we change and embrace.
